UMD DRIVE - The plastic door on the back of the PSP can break off or
the internal metal door can become bent out of shape and not close
properly. The UMD's themselves may also try to pop inserted. Check
that your UMD's are in good shape also, the clear plastic should not
be loose and should sit perfectly flush to the outer white plastic ring.
R-TRIGGER/MAIN CABLE
Connects the
motherboard to the
power switch PCB. pad
can become worn and
stop responding or show
"always on". Cable can
be damaged in a fall
causing no power and/or
eccentric button actions.
POWER SWITCH PCB -
The switch itself can break
off causing no power and
a loose feeling in the
Internal connection can
break causing no power
and the pressure sensitive
action buttons can
become worn and stop
responding. See the
Power Problems page for
more detailed information.
BUTTON BAR CABLE - Non-functioning buttons can be
caused by damage from a fall, excessive pressure, a
faulty power switch PCB, or an ill-fitting faceplate.
Pressure sensitive cable can become worn
causing no reaction or show "always on". An
ill-fitting faceplate can also cause the
directional buttons to activate the analog
stick actions and/or cause eccentric response
from the directional buttons themselves.
ANALOG STICK - Shaft can snap
off, internals can break causing
a grinding feel to the stick, or the game
character will be stuck travelling in one
direction only. An ill-fitting faceplate can
cause eccentric behavior also.
LCD SCREEN and backlight.
often looks like it has
spiderweb cracks, blacked out
areas on the screen, lines, or
an all black screen. A broken
backlight will show a black
screen but you can still faintly
see the picture if you hold the
PSP up to a light at just the
right angle.
UMD DOOR PROBLEMS

Sometimes a PSP will take an awkward fall or something and the exterior plastic UMD door can break off, come
halfway out, refuse to stay closed or just not work properly any more. Unfortunately you can't just put another one on
there without taking the PSP apart as there are internal  'security' screws to prevent this from happening. Sometimes
too the door itself isn't the problem at all, the newer PSP Slims have plastic UMD door 'hinges' molded into the rear
casing which will almost always break before the door does and all PSP's have some sort of metal UMD frame/holder
inside the door that can break or get bent out of shape and cause UMD door and/or game loading problems. Regardless
of which part's needed the prices below will take care of it.

PSP-1001 model UMD door and/or inner metal UMD frame replacement (return shipping included) - $59
PSP-2001 or PSP-3001 UMD door replacement (return shipping included) - $69

BUTTON PROBLEMS

"L" or "R" trigger always on or non-functional
Directional (arrow) pad malfunctions
All buttons "freezing" problems
Button bar (HOME/volume/screen/select/start) malfunctions
- (for no speaker sound see "wi-fi/memory/headphone PCB" problems below

Each of the above mentioned sets of PSP buttons has it's own underlying pressure sensitive cable that transfers the
data to the motherboard. Each PSP model has it's own particular cable set-up and some are very easy to work on
yourself with the DIY kits but there are some difficulties to watch out for. For instance, a common problem with
PSP's is that all of a sudden in the middle of a game it'll act like you've pressed the "HOME" button to quit the game.
Sometimes this is due to a problem with the button bar cable that has the HOME button on it but just as often it's a
faulty UMD trigger instead. The UMD trigger tells the PSP that there's a game loaded and to start trying to read it so
if a faulty UMD trigger thinks the game's been removed you'll get the same HOME button effect. The good news here
is that for our repairs the price is the same no matter which cable it is, or the UMD trigger for that matter, so you
don't really have to do much research to figure out how much it'll be to get it fixed. There's also some very cost
efficient do-it-yourself repair options you might like to try first. As with all the DIY kits, if it doesn't work out you can
always send the kit back to us for refund or mail it back along with your PSP and the price paid will come off of our
repair fee, same as if you sent your PSP in to us in the first place.

Any cable replacement - any model PSP - $59
Repair request form and instructions are at the bottom of this page
SHIPPING  All prices include USPS Priority Mail to anywhere in the USA. Standard military addresses are also included, PR and
Guam. International repairs quoted separately (allow about $15 extra for most Priority Mail International shipments).

WARRANTY  All repairs/replacements are warrantied for 6 months. That means the replaced or repaired part will work perfectly
when you get it back and will continue to do so for 6 months. Please note though that if the LCD screen gets smashed again or the
analog stick gets snapped off by brute-force I can't offer a warranty on that type of thing.

POLICY WHAT TO EXPECT  Every repair we do comes with a very good all round check-up. This means your PSP will be returned to
you in perfect working order and ready for a whole new life of game play regardless of which repair you originally send it in for. I'll
let you know if we come across anything else that isn't working properly or looks like it may not last for much longer. At that point,
armed with all the information, you can decide what you want us to do. I also clean everything up and return your PSP looking it's
best.
Dust behind the screen and in the drive area is a common problem and we remove every bit possible for every repair.

DIAGNOSIS IS A COMPLETELY FREE SERVICE  Sometimes there's more damage than meets the eye making it more cost effective to
buy a new console rather than fixing the one you have and I don't charge a dime if you choose not to go ahead with the repair. This
happens from time to time and it's just the nature of the business. I don't expect my customers to do anything that I wouldn't do in
the same situation and I'm happy to give my own personal opinion, pros and cons, to help someone decide what to do. On the same
note, it makes no sense to me to order in and install an expensive brand new battery cover or some other exterior item for a
well-used and scuffed up console. I have perfectly good used one's right here that will work just as well, if not better, for less than
half the price. A customer always has the option to have me install whatever they want but I always assume my customers would
rather I keep the repair costs to a minimum and the repair itself absolute top-quality. Anything along these lines would be discussed
via email before billing or sending the console home so there's never going to be any surprises.

TURNAROUND   Turnaround time varies of course but most repairs are completed within 2-3 days of receipt and mail-in-quotes
follow the same time line. Once I've gone over your PSP properly I'll email to let you know what I found, what the repair
options are and how much it'll cost. At that point you can mail a check/cash/money order or pay instantly online with a credit/debit
card, eCheck or Paypal. If you change your mind for any reason and decide you don't want it fixed after all thats perfectly OK
too -
diagnosis is a 100% free service and all repairs are considered mail-in quotes all the way up until they go home . Once
payment comes through I use USPS Priority mail for shipping your PSP back to you and you'll get a direct email from either Paypal or
Stamps.com with the shipping info when I print the postage. Priority Mail usually takes 2-3 days to most everywhere in the US so
your PSP won't be out of your hands for long.

MYSTERY REPAIRS   If you don't know what's wrong with your PSP that's fine too. Just use the form below and check the "Mail-in
quote" box to let me know it's coming and I'll email you with my findings and a proper quote when it gets here. Please also put your
description of the problem in the "additional comments" box though so I have an idea of where to start. Quotes are completely free
and if for any reason you choose not to have your PSP repaired after all you'd only owe me $8.95 for the return postage. Please
include a note with the PSP also with any information you have as to what it's been doing, or not doing, as this lets me know where
to start and speeds up the whole repair process.

*PROFESSIONAL INTERNAL CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE CHECK   Every PSP I work on get's a very thorough going over.
There are several different components and connections that tend to wear out or corrode over time, just by being used. Fouled
contacts for instance can cause your PSP to completely seize up or cause strange button responses. Also, I can tell by looking
at it if the analog assembly is getting ready to give out or if the battery isn't making proper contact due to a tweaked rear
casing. The added service of cleaning and/or replacing the contacts, cleaning all the lint and dirt out of the UMD drive, cleaning
the soda pop out from around the buttons and so forth will save you having to send the PSP off again at some later date just to deal
with these fiddly little problems. I do appreciate your business but I don't want to do a repair and then you have some new problem
crop up a month later when I can easily take care of these things while I have it here. I use only the best Sony original parts
and do everything I can to make sure your PSP will keep on working for as long as possible and look it's best also.
Cleaning all the
contacts, dust behind the screen, minor component/buttonscrew replacement, and cleaning the PSP inside and out is a free service
along with all standard repairs.
If the analog assembly looks like it's on it's last leg or something else is visibly going awry I'll email
to let you know at the time and you can then decide whether to pay a little extra now rather than top dollar later on.

PAYMENTS   Paypal handles all online payments, any standard debit/credit card will work and you don't have to have an account
with them at all, they just process the cards and eChecks for me same as any other merchant account. This way nobody here has
access to your financial information at any point, it's all handled 100% securely by them. Mailing payment's fine too if you prefer.

Lastly, if you'd like a quote before sending the PSP in please send me an email and I'll give it my best shot to give a quote without
seeing the console. I've fixed thousands of PSP's over the years so I can usually give an accurate repair price, or price-range if it's a
more complicated problem. I need the model number (1001/2001 or 3001) and the best description you can give of the problem.

ANALOG JOYSTICK ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT

This is the most common repair of all - the analog (or joystick) is used in pretty much every game ever made and
they do take a beating.  It consists of the outer round thumbpad which pushes down onto the plastic stem part of the
internal analog stick assembly. Usually either the stem will break or the internal components will wear out giving the
joystick a 'grinding' feel to it and/or the character in the game will run in the wrong direction or not at all. The $59
includes an entire new 100% Sony original analog assembly, labor, PSP maintenance/professional internal
cleaning* and return USPS Priority Mail shipping.  Unlike the cheaper aftermarket assemblies you see around these
are the exact same part as you had when the console was brand new and should last just as long.
Any model PSP analog assembly replacement (return shipping included) $59

Repair request form and instructions are at the bottom of this page
POWER SWITCH PCB REPLACEMENT

There's a whole page for this one too. Please read the "PSP power problems" page  to make sure a new power
switch PCB is what you need though first as there's a lot of things that can cause a PSP to not turn on properly.
Any model PSP power switch PCB replacement (with return Priority shipping) - $59

LCD SCREEN REPLACEMENT

Very common and very fixable even though it doesn't look like it judging from the smashed up look on the screen.
The LCD screen is a separate glass screen underneath the clear outer PSP screen so even if it's smashed to bits the
outer plastic screen will usually remain undamaged. There are pictures of a few cracked PSP LCD screens on the
Home page but not all will have that "spiderweb" look. Depending on just exactly where the screen is cracked it
can show colored lines, half a picture, or no picture at all sometimes. Quite often too a cracked screen will cause
an electrical short and when you turn the PSP on it'll immediately turn itself right back off. The good news here is
that there's rarely anything else wrong other than the broken screen and getting it fixed is a great deal compared
to giving up on it and buying a new one.
PSP-1001 model LCD screen replacement (with return shipping) - $69
PSP-2001 model LCD screen replacement (with return shipping) - $89
PSP-3001 model LCD screen replacement (with return shipping) - $79

Repair request form and instructions are at the bottom of this page

Do-it-yourself LCD screen replacement kits are available here.
UMD DRIVE DISC READING PROBLEMS

*****  The first thing to do is check that your UMD games/movies are in good shape. The clear plastic covers should sit
exactly flush with the outer white plastic part and shouldn't be loose or pushed in at all. The disc itself should be clean and
scratch free, just like normal CD's and DVD's.  *****FREE SHIPPING

Quite often a PSP stops reading the UMD discs properly or acts like it doesn't even recognise there's one inserted. If the
game itself is in good shape there's several different things that can cause a disc reading problem and it's not always the
UMD drive. Please take a few minutes to read the
PSP UMD problems page for more detailed information on this subject.

MOTHERBOARD REPLACEMENT

This is usually what you need if the PSP got wet and corrosion has set in or if it's taken a particularly bad fall. The
motherboard is the main circuit board for the entire PSP and therefore the most important and most expensive
component to replace. Quite often though a water damaged PSP motherboard can be cleaned up and saved if you get
it taken care of in time so even if your's appears completely dead it's still well worth having it checked out - please
click
here for more water damage info. A malfunctioning motherboard can cause any of the other problems
mentioned on this website too as all the other components rely on it to operate properly. We do offer multiple-repair
discounts if your PSP needs more than one item replaced but if the motherboard's one of them chances are you'll be
better off just buying a new PSP. This is where our offer to buy horribly broken PSP's comes in most handy for our
customers so at worst you'll at least get some money to put towards a new PSP rather than just giving up on it.

MOTHERBOARD FIRMWARE REPLACEMENT / UN-BRICKING SERVICE - $49 - RETURN SHIPPING INCLUDED

If the green light is the only thing that turns on (other than the orange charge light), and it shuts off by itself after
about 15-20 seconds, this is most likely what you need. Sony puts out a new firmware version update every few
months or so and if the update isn't performed properly or gets interrupted for some reason you end up with a
"bricked" PSP. When I replace the firmware the PSP goes back to it's original factory settings same as when it was
purchased brand new. Almost all PSP-1001 models are un-brickable as are most PSP-2001's but no PSP-3001's. If
you send your console in for a firmware replacement/un-bricking I also check for other problems - one of which may
be what caused the brick problem in the first place, and clean throughout the console same as any other repair. If
your console can't be un-bricked I'd have to install a new motherboard to fix it and you'd be notified by email to
decide at that point what to do from there.
Repair request form and instructions are at the bottom of this page
LABOR ONLY REPAIRS (YOU PROVIDE THE NEW PART IF ANY) - $49 - RETURN SHIPPING INCLUDED

If you've purchased a new part and want me to install it - other than custom cases as mentioned below - this will
cover it. If it turns out that other parts are needed though it'd be the same price as any standard repair and there's no
extra for me installing your new part while I'm in there. This also covers the entire repair when I can fix your
existing components rather than installing new ones - for instance, when there's a foreign object inside the PSP
stopping it from working properly and there's no actual damage. If you've already started the repair and want me to
finish it that's fine too - just put it all in ziplock bags or something similar and mail it to me as-is. There's no extra
charge for receiving a PSP in pieces rather than intact though it does travel better all in one piece if possible.
Repair request form and instructions are at the bottom of this page
PSP CUSTOM CASE REPLACEMENT -  $49-69 - ANY MODEL - RETURN SHIPPING INCLUDED

There are dozens of different companies selling custom PSP replacement cases on the Internet. Many unfortunately
are very poorly made and it takes a lot of extra time and modifications to get them to fit right and/or work at all so
they don't fall under the normal 'labor only' category. I can get almost all of them to work but I can't guarantee that
will happen up-front with a case you've already purchased elsewhere.  There are too many variables between
manufacturers, models and even colors so I have to have variable pricing for this type of repair. There is no charge
for me to try to install your aftermarket case though and I do have original Sony manufactured cases on hand to go
back to if needed.

SOUND PROBLEMS WI-FI/MEMORY CARD/HEADPHONE PCB REPLACEMENT

If you have no sound from either the external speakers or the headphone jack, the memory card doesn't read or the
wi-fi won't work this is probably what you need. Do keep in mind though that the memory cards themselves are often
the cause of any card reading problems and some the PSP can't recognise at all so test them out in another PSP first
if you can. Prices quoted include the new part(s), labor, PSP maintenance check, professional internal cleaning* and
return USPS Priority Mail shipping.
Any model PSP Wi-fi/memory card/headphone PCB repair / replacement (return shipping included) - $59

Repair request form and instructions are at the bottom of this page
CHARGER SOCKET REPLACEMENT

The charger socket is the yellow plastic socket with a metal pin inside where you plug the AC adaptor/charger in.
Quite often the internal metal pin gets stuck inside the charger plug and breaks off which means you can't charge the
PSP battery any more. Just because the battery's not charging though doesn't necessarily mean you need a new
socket. PSP batteries all eventually die just like other batteries, PSP chargers can also malfunction, and problems
with the main fuse on the PSP motherboard can all cause the same problem. If you can see the charger socket is
broken it's pretty much a sure bet that's all it needs but if not it's a good idea to experiment with a different
PSP/battery/charger if you can before sending it in for repair. Fortunately this is a fairly simple repair and the prices
quoted cover the new part, labor, PSP maintenance check, professional internal cleaning* and return USPS Priority
Mail shipping. It'll also cover bridging the main fuse if that turns out to be the problem instead.
PSP-1001 model charger socket repair / replacement (return shipping included) - $59

Repair request form and instructions are at the bottom of this page

PSP-1001 and PSP-2001 UMD charger
socket replacement kits are available
here.
For any PSP problem the first thing to do is find out which model PSP you have. The model number is
printed at the top of the square label inside your PSP battery compartment and on the long white
sticker along the bottom edge of the console. Older "fat" PSP's will show PSP-1001 and the newer
PSP Slims will be either a PSP-2001 or PSP-3001. Pricing and repair options are different for each
model.

Down this page I've listed the most common PSP problems and how much I charge along with the
do-it-yourself repair options. All the listed prices include the entire repair fee, all parts, labor, and
return postage so the only extra will be the cost of mailing the console to me (usually about $5).

Even with the most straightforward repairs though I sometimes find unexpected problems and if so I'll
email at that point with a proper quote before going any further. You can decide then whether to go
ahead with the repair or not and you're not obligated to pay anything unless you specifically give the
go-ahead on the repair.

There's a submission form at the bottom of this page which you fill out online to let me know that your
console's coming in for repair (or a quote) and what you think it needs. There's no payment or
payment information required up front at all.  Even if I do handle the repair I don't ever get your credit
card number or any other financial information - that's all left in the capable hands of Paypal so that's
one less thing to worry about. I just need your basic contact/shipping info and once the form's
submitted I'll personally email to let you know I received it as soon as I can, nothing is automated.

Detailed shipping instructions are shown next to the submission form though it's all really very
straightforward. Package your PSP up well for transit (just the console by itself - no extra's unless
you want them checked out too), and mail it to our one and only address -

SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS

(1) Fill out the form to the left and click submit.
This just let's me know your console is coming and
an idea of what the problem is, no financial info
required and I always check the whole console
over no matter which items are checked or noted.

(2) Package the PSP up well. Any sturdy box will
do (cell phone boxes are usually good), and allow
room for at least two inches of padding all around
the console. Bubble wrap is a great packaging
material but
wadded up plastic bags or newspaper
will work well too. Just make sure the PSP isn't
going to bang around inside the box or get crushed
during transit. The various carriers will usually
stock shipping materials at the counter which is
convenient but also rather expensive.

(3)
WHAT TO SEND: You don't have to send the
battery, charger, memory card, or anything extra
at all unless you want me to test them out too. If
you have a UMD loading problem though please
send along any one UMD disc that's not loading so
I can be sure to reproduce the problem when it
gets here.

(4) Make sure your contact info is shown
somewhere on or in the box and mail it to:

    PSP Repair Service
    2529 SW 25th
    Oklahoma City OK 73108

You can use any service that you like, post office,
Fedex, UPS or whoever you prefer and I'll
personally email you as soon as it arrives so you'll
know that it got here safely. If you're mailing a
check along with the PSP please make it out to
"PSP Repair Service" or "Lynn Brown".

Postal insurance for the return trip is not included
in quoted prices.
If you want me to insure the PSP
for the return trip I can do so at cost which is
currently $2.85 for $200 worth. If you're mailing
payment along with the PSP please add that on
and if you're going to pay later just include a note
requesting postal insurance for the return trip and
I'll add it to the final repair fee.

(1) Once your PSP is received I'll personally send
you an email  to let you know it arrived safely.

(2) Once I've gone over the console properly I'll
email again with what I found, what the repair
options are, and how much it'll cost to fix if you're
just wanting a free quote.
If the item checked in
your submission form matches exactly with the
actual problem I find I'll go ahead and fix it while
I'm in there to help cut down on turnaround time.

(3) If the repair hasn't already been paid for I'll
send an email invoice, payable online, for the total
repair charge. You can pay the online invoice by
credit/debit card, eCheck or Paypal, or you can
ignore it and mail a check/cash/money order,
whichever you prefer.

(4) Diagnosis is 100% free so if it turns out to
cost more than you expected or if you just change
your mind for whatever reason there's still no
charge for my services -
all repairs are considered
mail-in quotes first and foremost.
If you decide
against the repair and just want the still-broken
PSP back please mail a check for $8.95 to cover
return postage via USPS Priority Mail.
