SONY PSP LCD SCREEN REPLACEMENT KIT
|
I've fixed thousands of PSP's and a cracked LCD screen is by far the most common
problem. PSP's are actually pretty sturdy and can usually take a minor fall without taking
any damage other than a scuff or two but sometimes luck just isn't on your side and the
screen cracks. The LCD screen sits just underneath the front of the outer plastic PSP
screen. It's an entirely separate part from the outer clear screen so even though you don't
feel any cracks or damage you can usually see it very well. Most often you'll get the
spider web look, long connecting cracks with light shining through, but sometimes they'll
break in such a way that the screen is just all black. Occasionally the screen will look fine
but half of it is blacked out and sometimes a broken LCD screen will even cause the PSP
not to turn on at all. No matter how it looks though a broken screen has to be replaced as
they're just not fixable by human hands. The good news here though is that putting a new
one in doesn't have to be a big ordeal when you go about it in the right way. I'll be more
than happy to fix your PSP too if you'd like to send it in but I've also put together a kit
that will let you handle the job yourself and bypass mailing the PSP off altogether if you
have a PSP-1001 or PSP-2001 model PSP.
The reason I don't just sell the screens by themselves is they're just one part of the LCD
screen assembly which is several different items all layered together. I get lots of repairs
in from people that have tried replacing these themselves without knowing what they
were doing and it's painfully easy to break a new LCD screen and even easier to ruin the
much more expensive motherboard it attaches to. A PSP LCD screen is basically just a
very thin piece of glass and therefore not a good thing to be handling any more than
necessary. The kits I sell are made up in such a way though that you don't have to
actually touch the LCD screen at all other than dusting it off when you're done. This
removes any chance of breaking the new screen trying to fit it into your old assembly and
reduces the work down to the basics - take the old screen assembly out and put the new
one in. You get the same top quality parts I use myself, the same tools I use, and very
detailed step-by-step instructions. You only have to provide two hands and a broken PSP,
not one thing extra is required. I've had thousands of happy do-it-yourself customers over
the years and have great confidence that if you can follow a recipe and operate a
screwdriver you can also have your broken PSP up and running good as new in no time.
As always, there are pro's and con's to take into consideration deciding what to do. All the repairs I do myself come
with a lot more than just whatever new parts are needed. Each PSP is thoroughly cleaned inside and out. This cuts
down on the chances or needing future repairs due to all the lint and grit that get in there and jam up the laser gears
and what not. I also clean all the contacts and check the whole console over for tell-tale signs of problems to come so
you have the option to get them taken care of now for a few bucks rather than later on when it turns into a major
problem. The down side though is that you do have to package your PSP up and mail it to me. Allowing a couple days
for the job to get done then transit time back home it all adds up to quite a few days with no game to play with and
the cost of packaging and postage.
Doing the job yourself means your PSP won't get quite the thorough going over that I do but I have included with the
kit a few things you can easily do yourself to ward off future problems and save some serious money down the track.
You won't have to make a trip to the post office, pay for postage, or have your expensive console out of your sight at
all which is always a consideration. Doing the work yourself means you don't have to pay for somebody else's labor
either so it's basically going to be cheaper all round. Lastly, I do know that the idea of working on something so
foreign to most folks can be a bit daunting but I have an answer for that also. I have several PSP repair kits available
on the website and all of them come with a 'mid-repair bail-out option' which means you can change your mind right
in the middle of it and let me handle it from there. This is a very rare occurrence but at worst it just means going back
to the slightly more expensive option of having me handle the job in the first place. All repair kit customers have the
cost of the kit taken off of the normal repair fee so it's a win-win situation either way.
There's more info below on the kits and how to go about getting one. Please keep in mind there are now three
different models of PSP, all requiring a different type of screen, so it's very important to find out first which model
you have. There's a square sticker in the battery compartment and the model number is at the top. The original older
model PSP 'fats' will show PSP-1001 and the newer PSP Slims are either PSP-2001 or 3001. Sometimes there's no
sure you pick the right item and please note there won't be any PSP-3001 screen kits. A 3001 LCD screen is literally
paper thin and I'm not going to encourage anyone to replace these at home as they're far easier to break than the
1001/2001 LCD screens. To have us handle the repair instead go to the PSP Repair requests page for further
information and instructions.
